The issues with Rabbits in Australia is that they are multiplying so fast because there is no predators to eat them that they are destroying vegetation. Also issues rabbits are making is extinction of plant species. Another issue from the rabbit is that from them multiplying faster and is causing millions of them to appear and from them all eating vegetation causing animals to go in danger or even worse extinction. Rabbits are also causing soil erosion from the damage they do and what soil erosion is removing valuable soil nutrients that help new plants grow and develop. The issue got started in 1859 when europeans first settled in Australia and a man named Thomas Austin was given credit for releasing rabbits for him to hunt but their population of the rabbits multiplied too fast. The Pest Animal Control Cooperative Research Center has been involved in working to stop the rabbits destruction and help slim their population, the cost to deal with rabbits in the Australian economy cost $113.11 Million and can be estimated to go up even higher to $600 million. The government is trying its best to solve the problem of rabbits including killing them off with a rabbit diseases but the rabbits had later became immune to the diseases.
Theme of Geography
Themes of geography that are represented from the issues are rabbit is human environmental. Human Environmental Interaction is shown in the issue of rabbits because we are effecting the land to have them killed off. How is by us to destroy their homes by fumigation and even destroying the ground that the rabbits live by blowing it up. Also how humans affect their environment is by building a long fence across Australia to block the rabbits on one side of Australia and people thought it would change the problem with rabbits if we blocked them on one side of the fence, when they did it many people thought it would have worked but the fence did not work out. Next theme of geography is Place from issues of rabbits. The physical features of the land in Australia has been change based on the rabbits destroying the vegetation from the land forms in Australia. The soil in Australia has soil erosion which takes valuable soil nutrients. The physical features included in Australia include many plants from Australia going extinct from the rabbits eating the vegetation and plants.

Current Issues are currently affecting the wildlife that live in Australia by the animals going extinct and plants and vegetation is shrinking and some plant life no longer is around and is extinct. Issues that are going on now is soil erosion from the rabbits home and is making it harder for wildlife to grow in Australia with little good nutrients in the soil. What is currently being done to take care of the rabbit problem is Australia has given permission to hunt and kill rabbits. Also they have been allowed to gas rabbit holes under the ground and destroy their home under the ground. Why it matters to us is because the rabbits could case the extinction of many plants and animals we may never see in our lifetime because of the rabbits damage to Australia.
